Welcome to RoesList!
We’re Katie and Sophie, a mother-daughter duo on a mission to empower consumers to support businesses that align with their values. Our journey began in 2022, following the devastating overturn of Roe v. Wade. Like so many others, we felt anger and despair but also a deep need to take action. At first, I (Katie) vowed never to spend another dollar in states with policies that went against my beliefs. But, as the initial anger subsided, I realized that approach could unintentionally harm the very businesses trying to make a difference in those places. That’s when the idea for The RoesList Directory was born.
RoesList started as a simple idea: create a tool to help people like us “vote with their dollars” by supporting businesses championing values like women’s reproductive rights, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and racial equity for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (as well as businesses owned by folks in those groups). Progress was slow at first – life has a way of getting busy – but it’s clear that the time to act is now. What began as an ambitious concept is growing into a community-driven resource, and we’re thrilled to have you join us on this journey.
Right now, RoesList is starting small. We’ve created a straightforward system for businesses to sign up to be included in the directory (for free!). And for consumers, whether you’re looking for a thoughtful gift, planning a road trip, or seeking to support a local shop that shares your values, RoesList connects you with businesses that are making a positive impact.
What sets RoesList apart is its focus on local businesses, not just large, well-known brands. And, we aim to be a “one-stop shop” for businesses who have stepped up to show their support for equality for women, the LGBTQIA+ community/individuals, and BIPOC.
These businesses are often the heartbeat of their communities and deserve recognition for their work standing for equality, inclusion, and justice. With your help, we can grow this directory into a powerful network that uplifts businesses doing the right thing.
Our plans (that we are working on now!) are to turn The RoesList Directory into an app that makes finding these businesses even easier on mobile devices. For now, our focus is on building this directory and spreading the word. If you know of a business that should be included, please share our website!
